Hilton Head Island

[UNVERIFIED] Cohen's Barber Shop is a longstanding community institution on Hilton Head Island, deeply woven into the fabric of the island's Gullah Geechee neighborhood life. A classic neighborhood barbershop in the truest sense, it has served as a gathering place, a community anchor, and a cultural touchstone for the local Gullah community for years — the kind of establishment that represents the authentic, everyday life of the island beyond the resort corridors and tourist-facing businesses. Barbershops have always played a central role in African American community life, and Cohen's carries on that tradition with pride. For visitors who want to experience the real Hilton Head — the community that existed long before the resort development — a visit to Cohen's Barber Shop offers a genuine and meaningful glimpse into the island's living Gullah heritage.
